VIDEOCASE STUDY
We were thrilled to team up once again with director Rich Lee on the retrospective-themed music video ‘The Monster’ featuring rap legend Eminem and pop queen Rihanna. The project required a tight turn-around, with several sequences that needed to be solved. Most of the work involved recreating and placing Eminem in his most iconic music video moments, requiring environment extensions and various other composites for this journey through Eminem’s past.
Some of the sequences such as the 8mile section we were able to go back to the original negative and scan some clean plates to composite into our green screen footage.
For this shot we recreated the stage and crowd in the background from scratch, using Eminem’s 2000 Grammy Awards performance of ‘Stan’ as a reference. The original footage was matched utilising FX reel elements and lighting effects created in Autodesk Flame.
For ‘The Way I AM’ we delved into more of a 3d approach carefully matching the buildings in CG and
finishing in Nuke with various projection to add the final touches.
Other sequences included an elevator shot of Rihanna and Eminem that needed to be re-procted in 3d to create a camera move with perspective and the end scene where we were required to create and composite a 'prison' wall.
